SubPen Glider
Resume bullet points:
Designed an additional support system and carriage for the tail of the glider in Solidworks, fabricated it, and installed it on set (in progress shot to the right)
Worked as a part of a small team to install the track, commission the endless winch system to pull the glider through water, and assisted with its operation during filming
Additional information:
There was also a bubble rig inside the tank to disturb the water as the glider surfaced
The moving canopy was also a practical SFX rig, but not one I worked on
There were two setups:
-one "hollow" glider (with the green screen canopy seen below) that could be submerged and travel the length of the tank
-a second "hero" glider with fully dressed interior that would only travel the last leg on the surface which the actors could climb in and out of
SKILLS USED: Metal fabrication (cutting, grinding, turning, milling, MIG welding), SolidWorks, steel wire rope rigging, pneumatics,Â
Work in progress of the small support carriage I designed, fabricated, and installed to support the tail of the glider.
