Barrel Toss

SKILLS USED: Metal work (cutting, grinding, MIG welding), pneumatics, steel wire rope rigging

The brief for this project was to create physical interaction elements on set that would be use later for CGI. The barrels in this case would later be erased digitally and only how they affected the other objects on set would be kept.

Main ramp frame made out of 25x25mm steel. Flatback scaff tube clips were welded on so the height and angle of the ramp could be adjusted.

Just a little red sticker, nothing to see here...

I actually worried about that sticker a lot. The barrels were purchased clean and empty, but I still wasn't interested in seeing if I was the one in a million lucky winner. So I filled each completely with water (displacing all the available oxygen) before welding them.

The ramp I built was for one barrel, but for testing purposes the double barrel fit just fine.
